Local Residents Information
Thruxton has been part of the local community for more than 80 years, with a unique history spanning aviation and motorsport. Today, the site is home to an active airfield, race circuit and a diverse range of businesses and organisations.
This page provides useful information for local residents, including airfield operating hours, aircraft noise procedures, motorsport events and how to contact us if you have a question or concern.
Operating Hours
Thruxton is an active licenced airfield used by a variety of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters for private flying, training and other aviation activities.
Our published airfield opening hours are:
09:00 – 18:00 local time, daily
The airfield may occasionally operate outside these hours by prior arrangement. Night operations are also available on a limited basis during the winter months, generally between November and mid-February, Monday to Thursday between 17:00 and 19:00.

This is likely to be circuit training. Circuits involve repeated take-offs and landings and form an important part of pilot training and maintaining flying proficiency.
The runway in use is influenced by wind and weather conditions. Thruxton also operates within complex surrounding airspace, meaning procedures can vary according to local aviation activity and safety requirements.
Yes. Thruxton publishes noise-abatement information for pilots, including areas that aircraft should avoid overflying. Pilots are also instructed to climb away from the circuit pattern where appropriate to minimise disturbance.
Aircraft heard locally may not necessarily be operating from Thruxton. The surrounding area is used by other civil and military aviation, and aircraft may pass through the wider area without taking off from or landing at Thruxton.
The aerodrome closes to fixed-wing aircraft during published motor racing events. Conditional helicopter arrivals and departures may still be permitted.
Contact Thruxton with the date, approximate time, your location and as much information about the aircraft as possible using the contact form on the website.
Upcoming race meetings and public events are published on the thruxtonracing.co.uk website. Checking the events calendar is the best way to see when increased circuit activity and visitor traffic may be expected.
Noise Complaints
We understand that aircraft noise can affect those living close to the airfield and surrounding villages. We ask pilots operating at Thruxton to fly responsibly and follow our published procedures designed to minimise disturbance to the local community wherever it is safe and practical to do so.
Thruxton has established noise-abatement procedures and pilots are asked to avoid overflying designated noise-sensitive areas around the airfield. Our published procedures also encourage departing aircraft to continue climbing away from the circuit pattern where appropriate to help minimise noise disturbance in the surrounding area.
Helicopters operate under their own published arrival and departure procedures, which are also designed to avoid noise-sensitive areas wherever possible.
Flight paths can vary depending on factors including the runway in use, weather conditions, other aircraft and operational or safety requirements. Safety must always remain the first priority for pilots.
